Miles Muzio

Miles Muzio has worked in the field of meteorology as a weather forecaster, media broadcaster and consultant for more than 32 years.

Miles attended Texas A&M University and graduated from the U.S. Air Force School of Meteorology. He is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM), earning that prestigious designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in 2005. Additionally Miles received the AMS Seals of Approval for Television 1983 and Radio in 1985. He also holds the National Weather Association’s Television Seal of Approval (1992). Miles is both a meteorologist and station scientist.

Miles is the evening meteorologist at Eyewitness News, where he directs weather operations. He is also meteorologist for KERN-AM and the president of a private company, Unlimited Miles, which provides weather consulting for industry and expert testimony in forensics as well as television production.

Miles has been in Bakersfield since 1990. However from August 1998 until his return in 2003 he was chief meteorologist at WFSB-TV in Hartford, Connecticut. It was there that he established his “Unlimited Miles” franchise, which won the state media award of the Connecticut Bureau of Tourism in 2002.

Over the years Miles has worked at various television stations throughout America, including Anchorage, San Antonio, New Orleans, Portland and St. Louis. He has written several papers on forecasting techniques with additional research that has led to UV radiation forecasting techniques and a method to predict the onset of El Nino conditions in the Pacific. Miles is a passionate tornado chaser and has flown into hurricanes. His experience ranges from arctic work in Alaska to tropical forecasting in Panama. Since 1984 he has also consulted for various law firms and insurance companies as an expert.

He had visited all 50 states by age 19 and is currently attempting to climb to the highpoint of each state. To date he has accomplished this goal in 43 states. Every year since 1991, Miles has hosted the “ MoonWalk”, which is a nighttime hike up a high Sierra peak under the full moon of August. The most recent mountain hike was to Telescope Peak this past August.

While stationed in Houston with the Air Force, Miles had an opportunity to work with astronaut Gene Cernan on the Apollo 17 mission. He provided weather support for the Lunar Landing Training Vehicle at Ellington AFB in 1972. More recently, Miles founded a Christian radio station in Connecticut and chaired the Homecoming of Heroes parade in Bakersfield. In 2005, he established the Katrina Hope foundation to help in the re-assimilation of Hurricane Katrina victims into other communities nationwide (www.katrinahope.us). Miles has been married to Deborah for 30 years. They have 2 sons, Aaron and Micah.

His considerable background in weather, broadcasting and civic enrichment makes Miles Muzio a trustworthy friend to watch Monday through Friday’s at 5, 6 and 11. He is also heard throughout the day on KERN NewsTalk 1410 radio.
