03/03/08 Linda Kellogg & Lilly Cantu - Digg Those Dino's

Students in Bakersfield are going back hundreds of millions of years to the pre-historic days to dig up dinosaur bones.

Tyrannosaurus Rex, Watch Out! These teachers in Bakersfield are ready to dig up those dino's.

Linda Kellogg and Lilly Cantu designed a "Dino Dig" that allows students to become palaeontologist's and dig up fossils.

The program will allow students to learn hands on. "Students will get to make fossils, they will be able to dig up dinosaur bones themselves. We're going to make life sized bones.

From a triceratops to a stegosaurus, students will study various dinosaurs including the geological history of Bakersfield, millions of years ago.

But without the one thousand dollar grant, both teaches say this might not have been possible. "It's hard sometimes to be able to afford different types of books for out students, sometimes just coming out of your own pocket books it's hard. And the budget with the schools is hard."

But for the teachers the cost is priceless. When it comes to their students education, making memories and stimulating learning. "Our students will remember this forever. They will look back at this when they are future teachers, politicians, police officers, and they will share this with their kids and say I remember when I was in first grade

The students will also get to visit the "Buena Vista Museum of National History" to act as docents for the classroom's open house for their parents.
