Weir gives his reaction to recall noticeAmity Adrissi, Reporting
An update now to a story we were first to bring you on Eyewitness News, the Bakersfield City Councilman who tried to oust a fellow public servant is now facing a similar situation.
Some members of the community are attempting to recall the council member. When I spoke with Council member Weir last night he said he couldn't comment on the notice of intent to circulate a recall because he hadn't looked it over. Today we met with him at his office after he had a chance to look it over. First a recap of last night's meeting. Willard Winn, spokesman for the committee to recall ken Weir served the councilman with a notice of intent to start collecting signatures to remove him from office. Issues listed on that notice of intent include using the city seal for political campaign purposes and failure to disclose all sources of income. Today Weir told Eyewitness News that he wasn't surprised by the complaints in the notice because many of the issues have already been brought up. Weir did say he was suspicious that the recall is being pushed by a local union who are unhappy with their contract negotiations and are focusing their discontent on Weir. Ken Weir, Bakersfield City Council, Ward 3, "I am not surprised, basis for a recall whatsoever". Last night Mr. Winn told me reasons for the recall are based on a long line of disappointments in Weir's conduct. Weir says he is confident that the voters will see his contribution to the third ward. If the signatures are collected, the recall will likely appear on the November ballot. |
