Following an Eyewitness News Investigation Post Office offers reward

By Gloria Bratton

Two days after a second 29 Eyewtiness News report uncovering the problem of mail theft in Bakersfield, the U.S. Postal Service wants to offer an award to find those responsible for recent mailbox thefts and vandalisms around Bakersfield.

Eyewitness News has been flooded with calls from people whose mailboxes have been broken into and asking us to find a solution.

Postmaster Jim Brouillard says there is a higher than normal rate of break-ins in Bakersfield right now and the post office takes the problem seriously. Brouillard stresses that Bakersfield Citizens should report suspicious activity.

Now the Post Office is offering a reward, up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in these crimes.
If you see anyone messing with the mailboxes, do not approach them.

1. First call the police.
2. Do not approach the individual. Instead get a physical description of the suspect and vehicle if the suspect has one.
3. You can then call the U.S. Postal Investigative Service at 1-877-US MAIL5
