Check the credit card pump price before you fill your car
If you think gas prices are high, you might want to check the price on the pump before you start fueling up the next time. Eyewitness News received calls on our tip hotline from viewers who were confused about the price they were being charged at local gas pumps. That prompted us to ask some questions.
We called 20 local gas stations and this is what we found. Four of the 20 gas stations charged a different rate if you are paying with a credit card, a rate that can be as high as 50 cents more per gallon. Some gas stations who charge a higher rate do not post the price difference clearly or for that matter, at all. When we asked the reason for the higher rate, we were told they need to pay the credit companies fees. So to save on your next gas purchase make sure you read the signs carefully to see how much you are actually being charged and if it's unclear, check with the attendant. |
